Hello Friends,
Another year in Honduras for Project 541 is in the books. 2022 was certainly a “roller coaster” of events and emotions. However, our commitment and care for our children never waiver and you help us to see each situation through with their best interest in mind.
We are coming to terms with the loss of our beloved Jeff- husband, father, granddad, and so much more to so many people. We are finding our way slowly, but even though we will never get over his passing, we are dedicated to moving forward, both personally and as an organization. We know he would want and expect nothing less.
Our move to Tegucigalpa has helped us accomplish some long-term goals. Mika has seen a wonderful cardiologist for her heart issue and has a much needed referral to a surgeon. Cheslor and Annie are continuing to see a top infectious disease doctor. All of the kids finished another school year, some making real strides, while some we would love to give a booster shot of motivation. Sound like any families you may know? Project 541 will continue to help, guide, and provide our children with every opportunity to reach his/her potential.
Two of our children, our first residents, are now 18 year old young ladies. Research shows that:
1. Girls and young women in rural areas are discouraged from continuing their education. Many parents remove girls and young women from school, assigning them the task of caring for younger siblings or sending them to work to help the family economically.
2. 10% of the poorest females, ages 7 to 16 in Honduras, have never been to school…[while] the countrywide average is 4 years of education in Honduras. (The Pursuit of Education by Women in Rural Honduras by Charles Seeley)
We are quite proud that these two young ladies, as well as all of our residents, are the exception to those statistics. And it’s all been possible with support from you, our donors.
During Christmas, when we were remembering our blessings, Project 541 was grateful for the many ways you show your love to us. Our supporters have been faithful with their prayers, their interest, and their financial donations. So thank you from all of us to all of you. As the year progresses, please continue to pray for and support Project 541. We feel your love and prayers from a world away!
Love,
Brenda Austin
