  Project 541
Hello Friends!
We wanted to invite you to see the impact you have made in the last year in the lives of the kids at the Project 541 house.  Together we have accomplished some amazing things for our residents, and you will never know the full extent of how your giving has made all of it possible.  You have changed the life of our children and all we can say is Thank You.  Thank you for the sacrifices you made in your lives to pour that into these children’s lives.  Please know that 100% of your donation goes to our children.

A few things we want you to know:
  • We successfully moved to Tegucigalpa, the capital city, in March.  Working with the governmental agency in charge of children, Kayla and six children relocated to take advantage of the many opportunities a bigger city offers.  They are living in a comfortable home with reliable water and electricity, something not available in Puerto Lempira.  There are security gates which means we no longer need day and night watchmen. Bottom line, there is more stability in all areas.

  • One goal of Project 541 is the reuniting of children with their families when it is possible.  Two of our children were successfully reunited with their families prior to our move.  Esteven was also reunited with his family even though it broke all of our hearts.  They have expressed their commitment to his care, and, from all reports, he is doing fine. Project 541 still provides his medicine monthly and his older sister sends us pictures and updates periodically. Although we miss all of them, we feel that Project 541 was there for them when they needed us the most, providing them love, food, shelter and medical care.

  •  All six of our current children are attending a private school in Tegucigalpa.  As hard as people worked in Puerto Lempira to educate our children, the school they are in now is able to step to the next level with each child.  There are simply more opportunities and available resources here.  Everyone will move to the next grade level in August.  This summer, the older girls will also be receiving tutoring and Annie and Cheslor will go to “camp” at school the month of July.

  • The last, and most important, improvement is in the availability of medical care. There are both public and private doctors and hospitals.  Those requiring continuing medication and monitoring on a regular basis by a doctor are receiving both and their health is making dramatic improvements. There are dentists and eye clinics, two things not available in Puerto Lempira, and Kayla is also able to seek medical care for herself.

How can you help?

PRAY:   Please pray for Kayla and the children.  Pray for Project 541 and the differences we are trying to make in the lives of these precious children.  Pray for Honduras as a country, as there is much social and political unrest, as well as desperate people dreaming of a better life for their children in a country filled with so much violence.

TELL OTHERS:  Tell others about Project 541.  We are always happy to speak to churches or other groups about our mission.  Give them our contact information (
project541honduras@gmail.com) and we are happy to contact them.

GIVE:  The move to the city has increased our budget.  We would love to increase our monthly donors.  Any amount would be greatly appreciated.  As with any family, our budget begins with our known monthly giving.

Thank you again for helping to create a better future for the kids in our home.
Love,
Project 541 Board

Tegucigalpa serves as the capital for the Republic of Honduras. Honduras is the 2nd largest Central American country but is also the 6th poorest. The average gross domestic product (GDP) per person is $5,500 USD. More than half of the population of Honduras lives in poverty. (worldscapitalcities.com)
